    • Our dear father, Alvin Walter Bartel, born December 16, 1924 to John D. and Elizabeth Bartel, peacefully went to his eternal home to join our mother Tina, and our sisters, Judith and Sharon. God called him home in the early hours of Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba. He lived a full life, reaching the age of 92 years.

Dad accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 16, 1943 by Minister John A. Koehn. His faith was very precious to him and he embraced this till the end. He was a devoted husband to our mom, taking exceptional care of her. Dad and mom would often be seen sitting side by side in Maplewood Manor singing hymn after hymn in harmony.

He grew up on a farm in the Clearspring area helping his father with many farming duties. In the late 40's he went with a crew to work at a bush camp in Wade, Ontario. Our mother was a cook there and this is where they met.

On November 27, 1949, he married our mother Tina Goossen and they enjoyed almost 63 years together. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. God saw fit to take the two daughters in infancy to start the family circle in Heaven. A while later, God blessed them with two daughters through adoption to again complete their family. Dad taught us all spiritual values, good work ethics, to be respectful, caring, and to have integrity.

Left to cherish precious memories are his five children: Wayne of Steinbach, MB; Murray (Elizabeth) of Calgary, AB; Rawlyn (Thérèse) of Grande Pointe, MB; Karen Unger of Steinbach, MB; Cathleen (Greg Penner) of Steinbach, MB, and son-in-law Dave Unger. Eight grandchildren: Pascale (Tom) Gretchen, Jordan (Laura) Unger, Riley Unger, Alix Bartel, Colton Unger, Stephen Bartel, Keira Penner, and Teryn Penner. Three great-grandchildren: Zachary Gretchen, Annika Gretchen, and Hale Corely.

He also leaves to mourn sisters-in-law: Margaret Bartel of Steinbach, MB, Doreen Goossen of Abbotsford, BC, and Ellen Goossen of Fernitosh, AB; brothers-in-law: Peter Goossen of Steinbach, MB; Danny (Rosella) Goossen and Roy (Gladys) Goossen, of Abbotsford, BC; Robert (Florence) Goossen of Riding Mountain, MB.

The viewing will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52W, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God in Christ in Steinbach, MB, with the interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
