    • TRIMONT - A Celebration of Life service for Oliver Sandmeyer, 72, of Trimont, Minn., will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont, with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Elm Creek Cemetery, rural Trimont, Minn., with full military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 of Trimont.

      Oliver was called to his eternal rest on Saturday morning, May 9, 2015, at his home in Trimont, Minn.


      Oliver Walter Sandmeyer was born May 14, 1942, in St. James, Minn., to Walter and Evelyn (Swenson) Sandmeyer. He attended school in Madelia and graduated with the class of 1960. Oliver then served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Minnesota and lived in Mountain Lake, where he served as a part-time police officer. He then moved to Trimont and was employed at the Monterey Rendering Company and was a part-time police officer for the city of Trimont. On April 22, 1967, he was united in marriage to Joanne Goossen at Mountain Lake, Minn. After their marriage, they lived in Trimont, where Oliver was employed at the Trimont Elevator, Carlson Drainage and helped various farmers in the area. He then was a truck driver for Rohman Truck and K & R Transfer and later owned and operated Sandmeyer Trucking. Olie was employed for Trimont Wood Products and most recently for Rosburg Construction in Welcome. Oliver was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont and the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 and its firing squad. He enjoyed farming, fixing things, visiting with people and driving around town and in the country in his truck. Moving snow in the winter and helping people out he greatly enjoyed doing. Most of all, he loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren.

      Survivors include: his children, Kevin Sandmeyer of Fairmont, Minn., Katherine Dougherty of Streeter, N.D., Kelly Sandmeyer of Trimont, Minn., Michael Sandmeyer and Allen Sandmeyer, both of Trimont, Minn.; six grandchildren, Tiffany Borntrager, Brook Dougherty, Lucas Dougherty, Christian Sandmeyer, Reese Sandmeyer and Hunter Schmidtke; two great-grandchildren, Kenneth and Kourtney Stirling; brothers, sisters and in-laws, Clifford Sandmeyer of Maplewood, Minn., Elizabeth Newhope of Madelia, Minn., Gloria Sandmeyer of St. James, Minn., Lucille Rouslang and husband, Jim of Maple Grove, Minn., and David Sandmeyer and his wife, Karen of Lakeville, Minn.; mother-in-law, Eva Goossen of Trimont; brothers and sisters-in-law, Barb Hampton and special friend, Calvin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janet Jones and her husband, Steven of Brandon, S.D., Glenda Homan and her husband, Ron of Minneapolis, Minn., Vyonne "Goossen" Adams of Trimont, Becky Stewart and her husband, Mark of Eagle Lake, Minn., Roger Goossen and his wife, Nyla of St. James, Randy Goossen and his wife, Margaret of Westminster, Colo., Steve "Oppie" Goossen and his wife, Michelle of Benson, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
