- Susie (Flaming) Goossen Obituary
Susie (Flaming) Goossen was born to Abraham J. and Eva Flaming April 28, 1907 at Hydro, Oklahoma. She departed this life at the Longmont (Colorado) United Hospital, September 26, 1988, where she had been a patient for two weeks.
Susie was one of a family of four boys and seven girls. Her brothers Henry, John and Jake and her sisters Martha, Marie, Katherine, Anna and Emma preceded her in death. Her older brother, Herman, and his wife Freda, live in Newton, Kansas. Her younger sister, Agnes and her husband, Marvin Loewen, live in Los Osos, California.
Susie realized her need of salvation from sin so by faith she received Jesus Christ as her Saviour. She was baptized by Rev. John Lichti and joined the Medford (Oklahoma) Mennonite Church.
On October 4, 1931, Susie was joined in marriage to Abraham B. Goossen. They homesteaded in Western Kansas, where they lived all their married lives. They were married for 54 years when Abe was called to his Heavenly home on January 25, 1986.
They were charter members of the Meadow Mennonite Church, which later became the Mingo Bible Church. Susie was one of the eight charter members present at the 50th anniversary of the church a year ago. She was faithful and very interested in missions until the time of her death.
Mother's interest were domestic. In earlier years she was adapt to crocheting and embroidery work. Later she picked up latch hook. In our early home we remember mother utilizing scraps of fabric into braided rugs.
She coveted and cherished visits from friends and family. Her door was always open and her welcome mat always out for us. Her gentle and quiet counsel will long be remembered.
Her family of three children has extended to a family of seventeen, all surviving to the present. They are: Lois Irene and Levi Siebert of Thornton, Colorado and their children, Lloyd, Sherri and Mark Sems, Kevin and Debi (Bell); Lorena and Albert Wahl of Lynn Lake, Manitoba, Canada; Ralph and Gloria (Buller) Goossen of Colby, Kansas; their children, Debra, Kimberly and Brian. Three great-grandchildren are Matthew, Rochelle and Rebecca Sems.
