Glendive, Montana: Delmar Dwaine Goosen, 74, died on March 10, 2011 at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. on Monday, March 14, 2011 and from 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Our Savior Lutheran Church of Glendive with Pastor James Hageman officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery of Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with the arrangements.
Delmar was born on January 9, 1937 at the County Hospital in Glendive, the son of John and Cydelia (Schmidt) Goosen. He was raised on a farm 10 miles North of Bloomfield, Montana. Delmar attended grades K-8 in rural Dawson County schools and one year in Richey High School. Delmar entered the United States Navy in September of 1954, attended basic training in San Diego, California, was transferred to the east coast of Davisville, Rhode Island and later to San Salvado, Antigua, Port Lyaute and French Morroco. Delmar married Marilyn Ann Cartmell on August 28, 1958 in Glendive. Delmar was honorably discharged from military service in November of 1959 with the rank of CD3.
Following his discharge, Delmar returned to Montana to help on the family farm. He and his wife later moved into Glendive and Delmar began working in the oilfield's until May of 1962 when he became employed with Al Kron Construction where he remained until 1977. Delmar and his wife built a new home in 1973 which they have resided in since.
In June 1977, Delmar started Delmar Goosen Construction which he owned and operated the rest of his life. When business times were slack, Delmar would also work with AA Quality Construction, G&C Construction and Swank Construction.
Delmar always felt that he had led an adventurous life and always enjoyed having a large section of flowers around the family home as well as a huge garden each year which he and his wife canned and processed.
Delmar is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Glendive, three daughters, Bonnie Pengelly of Whitefish, Montana, Tammy (Jay) Anderson of Hesperia, California and Beverly (Arlen) Frye of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, Bill (Cheri) Goosen of Helena, Montana; two sisters, Elaine(Bruce) Oldenburg and Jane (Bud) Staehnke all of Glendive, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
