    Cornelius Goosen, 74, long time resident of this area, passed away atthe Oceana Hospital last Tuesday following a short illness.

    Mr. Goosen was born March 3, 1885, in Belgium and came to Rivertontownship, Mason county 47 years ago. He married Theresa Peerlinck inBelgium on September 7, 1912. He had been a farmer all of his life. Hewas a communicant of St. Gregory's church of Hart. Mrs. Goosen died inJanuary of 1955.

    Surviving are three sons, Frank and Stanley of Muskegon and John ofHart; five daughters Mrs. Anna Areklet and Mrs. Ruby Minnick ofPentwater, Mrs Mary Schlee and Mrs. Julia Dennert of Hart, Mrs BarbaraWilde of Bailey; four brothers, Stanley of Coopersville, John, Adrianand Louis of Belgium; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Jansen of Scottville, andMrs. Frances Jansen of Belgium; and 14 grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's churchof Weare with Rev. Fr. Stephen Kolenic officiating. Rosary services wereheld at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Tate Funeral home. Internmentwas in Mt. Calvary cemetery in Weare. Arrangements were by the TateFuneral Home.

    The family uses the spelling of their name as Goosen but Corneilius usedGoossen on his WWI Draft registration. Copy of signature is availablethrough search on Ancestry.com. Anna Areklet said that he used thespelling Goossens when he first came to this country from Belgium.

    WWI draft registration showed him of medium height, blue eyes, and hisbirthdate as March 11, 1885. Occupation as a self employeed farmer.

    Goosen Funeral Held in Weare

    South County Line--- Services in memory of Mrs. Cornelius Goosen wereheld Friday morning from St. Joseph's church in Weare with the Rev. Fr.E. L. Quaderer, pastor, officiating.

    Pallbearers were Thomas Brenan, John Scanlon, Donald Lundberg, JuliusMatson, Henry Terryn and Charles Teeryn.

    Among those attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ston Goosen andfamily of Coopersville and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jansen and family of Wiley.

    The rosary was recited at Tate funeral home in Hart Thursday evening.

    The Goosen family has resided on the same farm for the past 35 yers andprevious to that had lived in the Crystal Valley and Bass Lake areasfollowing their arrival in the United States in 1913 from their nativeBelgium.

    Devoted to her home and the rearing of her three sons and fivedaughters, Mrs. Goosen still found time to join in community activitiesas long as her health permitted.

    Mrs. Goosen, 62, Expires Tuesday

    South County Line--Mrs. Cornelius Goosen, 62, of South County Line diedTuesday at her home. She had been in ill health for some time.

    Theresa Elizabeth Peerlings was born in The Netherlands, Oct. 27, 1892and was married there to Cornelius Goosen, who survives. The couple cameto the United States in 1913 and lived in Riverton Township for the past36 years.

    Survivors include her widower; three sons, Frank and Ston of Muskegonand John of Ludington; five daughters, Mrs. Frank Areklet and Mrs.Francis Minnick of Riverton, Mrs Will Schlee, Mrs. Henry Dennert andMrs. Louis Wilde of Hart; three brothers who live in Belgium, 11grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph'sCatholic Church in Weare with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. The bodyis at Tate's funeral home in Hart.

    Theresa Goosen Dies Tuesday

    Death came to Theresa Goosen Tuesday morning at her home in RivertonTownship, Mason County at the age of 62, following an illness of a year.She had lived in the Buck's Corners area for the past forty years.

    Mrs. Goosen was born in the Netherland on Oct. 27, 1892 and came to theUnited States and to Riverton from there. She married Cornelius Goosenin the Netherlands on Sept. 7, 1912. She was a communicant of St.Joseph's church in Weare.

    Surviving besides the husband are three sons, Frank and Stanley ofMuskegon and John of Ludington; five daughters, Mrs. Anna Areklet ofPentwater, Mrs Ruby Minnick of Ludington and Mrs. Mary Schlee, Mrs.Julia Dennert and Mrs. Barbara Wilde of Hart; three brothers, Louis,Harry and Gus of Belgium; and 11 grandchildren.

    Rosary services will be held on Thursday evening, Jan 20 at 8:00 at theTate Funeral Home. Final rites will be held Fri. morning at 9:00 fromthe St. Joseph's church in Weare with Rev. Fr. E L Quaderer officiating.Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary cemetery.
