    • A Celebration of Life Service for Jonas H. Goossen, 88, of Trimont was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Trimont with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial was in Elm Creek Cemetery in rural Trimont, Minnesota with full military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 of Trimont and Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8261 of Sherburn, Minnesota.

      Jonas died on Friday morning, February 4, 2011 at Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minnesota.

      Jonas Harold Goossen was born on July 24, 1922 to Peter and Hilda (Fast) Goossen in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He received his education in Mountain Lake Country School District #115. On October 11, 1944 he was united in marriage to Eva Heffele at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. After their marriage Jonas entered the United States Army on October 16, 1944 until his honorable discharge on October 24, 1946. He received many awards including, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, BR Battle Star, Phillipine Liberation Br. Star,Victory Medal, Good Conduct Metal, Army of Occupation Medal and a Purple Heart. After service He farmed for WB Marshall in Windom, Minnesota until moving to Mt. Lake working for Butterfield Produce. In 1963 moved to Trimont and worked for the Rendering Plant until 1972, then for Glasstite in Dunnell for ten years retiting. He work for the City of Trimont, Trimont Greenhouse and was church custodian. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Church in Trimont. He also was a member of the Foster-Bernhard American Legion Post #373 of Trimont and served on its honor guard and the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8261. Jonas greatly enjoyed his family and friends, watching Bandwagon, gardening, fishing, hunting and worked hard all his life.


      Survivors include his wife, Eva Goossen of Trimont; his children, daughters, Barb Hampton and special friend Calvin Carey of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Janet (Steven) Jones of rural Trimont, Glenda (Ron) Homan of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Vyonne Adams of Trimont, Becky (Mark) Stewart of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, sons, Roger (Nyla) Goossen of St. James, Minnesota, Randy (Margaret) Goossen of Westminister, Colorado, Steve (Michelle) Goossen of Benson, Minnesota; son-in-law, Oliver Sandmeyer of Trimont, daughter-in-law Lisa Goossen of Fairmont; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Jeanette Grant of Mountain Lake, Leroy Goossen of Coarsegold, California, Arlene Goossen of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Dennis (Darlene) Goossen of St. James, Nettie (Guy) Erickson of North Mankato and Jeanette (Joe) Grant of Mt. Lake; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

      Jonas was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Elizabeth, daughter, Joanne Sandmeyer; son, Thomas Goossen; grandson Corey Gjertson, great-granddaughter, Judy Gjertson brother, Donald Goossen sisters, Clara and Della and other relatives.
