- He was killed in action near Cambrai on 23 October 1918, age 23, whilst trying to locate the position of a German machine-gun battery. He came upon it unexpectedly, and although confronted by a number of the enemy refused to surrender. He is buried in the St. Souplet, British Cemetery, near Le Cateau, and commemorated on a plaque on the north wall of the Episcopal Church of St James the Great in Dingwall.
- 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, was the second and only surviving son of Sir Hector Munro of Foulis, 11th Baronet and 32nd Chief of the Clan Munro, and Lady Margaret Violet Munro (nee Stirling) of Foulis Castle.
