Notes - John Brodie 3rd son of Alexander Brodie, 12th Laird of Brodie, by his second wife, Margaret Hay, was the ancestor of the Brodies long located in the Upper Donside parish of Aberdeenshire. He was born 1580, died 1660, married in 1616, Helen Mackenzie, and their issue consisted of (1) David; (2) John (1624-1680) “ Honest John Brodie " mentioned in James Brodie’s Diary, who married, 1652, Catherine Paterson, and had issue of whom afterwards; (3) Alexander; (4) Margaret ; (5) Janet; and (6) Agnes, who was probably the wife of James Mortimer, mentioned in the Aberdeenshire Poll Book 1696. John Brodie (b 1580, d 1660) m. Helen Mackenzie .
