      Bericht uit de Nederlandsche Staats-Courant van 6-5-1835:
      "Ministerie van Binnenlandsche Zaken.
      Strandvonderij.
      Oproeping tot reclame, van eene Barkas, door Jan Cornelis Grootje van 't Eiland Schokland in de Noordzee drijvende gevonden, en te Harlingen als strandvond aangebragt op den 22sten April ll., binnen 14 dagen na heden.
      Harlingen, den 2den Mei 1835.
      De Burgemeester der stad Harlingen, J. Rodenhuis."

      Bericht uit de Provinciale Overijsselsche en Zwolsche Courant van 2-11-1863:
      "Door Z.M. den koning is aan Jan Cornelis Grootjen, van beroep visscher, wonende in de buurtschap Brunnepe, gemeente Kampen, eene gratificatie verleend ten bedrage van f 25, als tegemoetkoming voor de herstelling van zijn vaartuig, waaraan hij bij een der jongste stormen in de Zuiderzee groote averij gekregen en aanmerkelijk nadeel heeft geleden."

      Volgens zijn overlijdensakte was Jan Cornelis Grootjen 81 jaar oud, visser, geboren op Schokland in 1794, gehuwd met Aaltje Gertzen, zoon van wijlen Cornelis Grootjen en Maria Dubbels. Hij overleed in Kampen, Brunnepe, wijk 5, nr. 196.
