- John Reimer Goossen was born to Peter D. and Helena Reimer Goossen on September 8, 1920, at Greenland, Manitoba. He passed to his eternal reward at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center on November 15, 2001, reaching the age of eighty-one years.
He grew up and spent his entire life in the Greenland, Manitoba, area. He felt and responded to the call of God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at the age of eighteen years. He held his faith dear to the end.
On August 4, 1946, he was married to me, Lizzie Unger, at Greenland, Manitoba. We shared the joys and sorrows of life together for over fifty-five years. Our home was blessed with fourteen children.
Dad was a man of action and unusual physical strength and vigor. In his youth, he spent many winters working in the lumber camps in Eastern Manitoba and Ontario. In 1942, Dad moved onto the farm to which he later brought his bride. They resided here until they moved to their semi-retirement home nearby, where they spent their last years.
Dad was always the leader of the family, and now again he is leading the way for his family of 113 to a new and better home. Though we will surely miss Dad, we do not wish him back. The memory of his faithfulness will be our encouragement to press on to meet him in the morning.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his sorrowing wife, Lizzie; eight sons and six daughters: Ken and Jan., Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Bev and Delbert Penner, Benito, Manitoba; Ron and Laurie, Valcourt, Quebec; Elfrieda and Howard Warkentin, Hyas, Saskatchewan; Monroe and Julietta, Hyas, Saskatchewan; Virgil and Lorna, Fort Vermillion, Alberta; Andrew and Tina, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Priscilla, Dewberry, Alberta; Art and Michelle, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Susan, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Cathy and Andrew Toews, Dewberry, Alberta; George and Donna, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Liz and Abe Penner, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; and Frank and Carla, Ste. Anne, Manitoba, presently missionaries in the Philippines; fifty-one grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Anne, Manitoba; Bill and Laverna Unger, Steinbach, Manitoba; Matilda and Dave Wohlgemuth, Crooked Creek, Alberta; and Tony and Eva Unger, Steinbach, Manitoba.

Funeral services were held at the Greenland Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Ste. Anne, Manitoba, on November 19, 2001. Ministers Edgar Wohlgemuth and Melvin Penner officiated. Interment was in the Greenland Cemetery with Min. Elroy Penner in charge.
