  Peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2015, Lizzie Unger Goossen quietly slipped away into the hands of the Lord, at the age of 91. Lizzie was born on August 13, 1923 to Abram W. and Katie Unger and was the oldest of eight children. She was baptised into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in the winter of 1945-46. She worked as a secretary at Ste. Anne Coop, where she met John Reimer Goossen. John and Lizzie were married on August 4, 1946 and were blessed with eight sons and six daughters. They farmed in the Ste. Anne area for all of their 55 years together. Soon after the passing of her husband on November 15, 2001, Lizzie moved into a condo at Stonebridge Crossing in Steinbach. The Maplewood Manor would be her next and final move where she lived her last 1 ½ years. Family and friends were very important and dear to her. Lizzie was strong in her faith and embraced it until the end. She leaves behind her children: Kenneth and Janice, Steinbach, MB; Beverly and Delbert Penner, Arran, SK; Ronald and Laurie, Montreal, QC; Elfrieda and Howard Warkentin, Hyas, SK; Monroe and Julietta, Hyas, SK; Virgil and Lorna, Fort Vermillion, AB; Andrew and Tina, Ste. Anne, MB; Priscilla, Dewberry, AB; Art and Michelle, Ste. Anne, MB; Susan, Blumenort, MB; Cathy and Andrew Toews, Dewberry, AB; George and Donna, Kenora, ON; Liz and Abe Penner, Wheatley, ON; Frank and Carla, Alexandria, ON; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, nine sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law. Preceding her in death is: her husband John Reimer Goossen, her parents, one sister, two brothers, six sisters-in-law and ten brothers-in-law. She will be greatly missed. A viewing will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach. There will also be a viewing at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Greenland, MB. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
