    • Muriel Goosen, age 77, of Pentwater, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 16,1999 at Spectrum Health Care East in Grand Rapids. Muriel Nash was bornSept. 8, 1921, in Louisiana, to Joseph Carl and Sallie Odessa (Elkins)Nash. She graduated from Spearsville High School in 1938, and attendedLouisiana Technical University in Ruston, La. She was married April 9,1944, to Frank (Pete) Goosen at St. Johns Catholic Church in Shreveport,La. Following her husbands discharge from the Army Air Force, the couplelived in Muskegon until 1964, then moved to their farm in RivertonTownship.

      Her husband preceded her in death in November 1974, at whichtime she went back to school and graduated from the Licensed PracticalNurse program at West Shore community College. She worked at MemorialMedical Center in Ludington for 15 years, retiring in 1991. She was aregular contributor to numerous charities, served as a volunteer for RedCross blood drives and was a member of the South Riverton Helping HandSociety. She attended St. Vincents Catholic Church in Pentwater and wasa member of St. Vincents Altar Society.

      She is survived by one son,Richard (Rebecca) Goosen of Cedar Springs; one daughter, Sally (Otto)Larson of Scottville; six grandchildren, Stacey, Greg and Tracy Goosen,Christine OHara, Andy and Matt Larson; six sisters, Katheryn (Alton)Hall, Marilyn Odom, Celeste (Forrest) Post, Lenora (Vernon) Martin,Weltha (H.J.) Guillory, and Carolyn (Winnon) Taylor; one brother, Dr.Charles (Patsy) Nash; five sisters-in-law, Regina (Virgie) Goosen, AnnaAreklet, Julia (Henry) Dennert, Ruby Minnick, Barbara (Lewis) Wilde; andone brother-in-law, John (Emma) Goosen; numerous nieces and nephews. Inaddition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, onebrother, Dewey Nash, one sister-in-law, Mary (Bill) Schlee, and onebrother-in-law, Stanley (Jack) Goosen.

      Mass of Christian Burial forMuriel Goosen will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20 at St.Josephs Catholic Church, Weare, with the Rev. Charles Brown ascelebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Weare.Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 at the TateFuneral Home in Hart, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thefamily asks that those wishing to remember Muriel with a memorialconsider a donation to the St. Vincents Altar Society in her name or toa charity of the donors choice.
