    • In de zomer van 1883 wordt Grietje Kos, als ze nog geen 15 jaar is, dienstbode bij J. Slijkerman in Zijpe. Drie jaar later gaat ze werken bij de manufacturier Micklinghoff in Schagen. In 1891 krijgt ze werk bij bakker Velzeboer op het Fnidsen in Alkmaar. In die tijd leerde ze Willem Veer kennen.
